Valentine’s Day Celebrations: What do we REALLY want?

This year, for Valentine's Day 2026,

we surveyed 500 people in Australia who are in a relationship.

We asked people of all age groups and genders what they really think about Valentine's Day, and the sentiment is largely positive: 3 quarters of our survey respondents enjoy celebrating their relationship on this day. Only about one-quarter feel neutral toward the holiday, and just a small minority admit they participate reluctantly — mainly due to external pressure rather than genuine enthusiasm.

86% will be spending some money specifically for Valentine's Day - only 14% were steadfast in spending absolutely nothing for the occasion.

When asked about what they would MOST like to receive from their partner if they could only pick ONE option: close to 65% of our respondents prefer an experiential gift such as dining out, being pampered with a massage or spa session, or some other type of experience.

Material gifts are still greatly fancied by 35%, and flowers remain the most popular out of the tangible items, followed by accessories such as jewellery and watches, and, of course, the classic chocolate gift.
